About the university

Kharkiv State Animal Veterinary Academy is one of the oldest educational institutions in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. The Academy is a state educational institution of the IV level of accreditation, subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The history of the academy is, first of all, the history of two institutes – the Kharkiv Veterinary (1851 foundation) and the Kharkov Zoo (1921), which until 1960 worked independently and each has its own rich history. Kharkiv Zoo Veterinary Academy emerged as the successor of the Kharkiv Zoo Veterinary Institute in December 2001, which was established in 1960 by the merger of Kharkiv Veterinary and Kharkiv Zoo Technical Institutes, which, in turn, take the origins from the Kharkiv Veterinary School of the first category, ie the higher, and the Kharkiv Agricultural School , which were begun in 1851 and 1855, respectively.

Graduates of the school successfully work in 78 countries of the world on all continents, including the USA, Canada, England, Japan, Germany, Bulgaria, Poland, Mongolia, China, Panama, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Jordan, Israel, Mali, Morocco, Ethiopia. , Congo, Nigeria, Ghana.

The Academy is a higher educational institution, whose activities are aimed at training specialists in agrarian, veterinary and nature-oriented direction. Has a strong educational and scientific complex, which combines three faculties (veterinary medicine, technologies of livestock production and management, and biotechnology and nature management). The educational and practical complex of livestock and plant growing (which includes animal husbandry (dairy and meat cattle breeding, pig breeding, poultry farming, etc.) and plant growing), the Bureau of Forensic Veterinary Research, the Scientific Library, the Center for Practical Training and Employment, the Center for International Cooperation, the Equine sports complex and others.

Today, two academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, two correspondent members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, four academicians of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, 16 doctors of sciences, professors, 124 candidates of sciences, associate professors, one of the State Prize winners and eight deserved ones, carry out educational and scientific work at the academy, workers in various industries.

For the students’ residency, the academy has a campus with hostels located near educational buildings, branched out with a network of grocery stores; cafes, dining, sports and recreation, cultural and educational and equestrian sports complexes work. All this is located in the picturesque forest park area of ​​the suburbs of Kharkov, where for a long time many Kharkiv residents come for family rest.

The Academy carries out the training of specialists in delayed order and contract, at the following educational and qualification levels: “Bachelor”, “Master” and training of highly skilled personnel in the postgraduate study program. About 2000 students and 50 graduate students study at the academy.
